Despite wanting to build muscle, I’ve always struggled to have enough protein in my diet. I used to eat a tin of tuna every day, until I found out that tuna is full of mercury. I also stopped eating most other meats for ethical reasons, so I needed to top up with protein supplements.
Just drinking protein shakes all the time can get pretty boring though, so I want to tell you about the best protein foods for muscle building that I’ve found, which actually make me feel like I’m eating something nice (because I am eating something nice).
The Protein Works Mug Cake Mix
All you have to do is mix the powder in a mug with a little bit of water until it forms a paste, stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds, and you end up with a very tasty high protein chocolate cake (or pudding depending on how watery you made the paste).
The taste is actually so nice that you wouldn’t know that you were eating a high protein food. It tastes just like a standard dessert.
One mug cake gives you a massive 20.3 grams of protein, and only 1.7 grams of fat and 3.9 grams of sugar. Who said eating cakes couldn’t be good for you?
MyProtein Protein Pudding
Each pudding comes in its own little tub, so you can eat it right away, and there’s a choice of vanilla and chocolate flavours. I’ve only ever tried the vanilla, but I can tell you that they’re very tasty.
Each individual pudding gives you 15 grams of protein, and only 2.9 grams of fat and 1.2 grams of sugar.
Building muscle never tasted so good.
MyProtein Protein Porridge
The porridge conveniently comes in individual sachets, making it quick to mix, and convenient if you want to take one to work with you.
You simply add the contents of a sachet to a bowl of milk, then microwave it to get a high protein porridge, with 17 grams of protein in a serving.
Since I’m not really a fan of traditional hot porridge, what I actually do is leave out the microwave part, so that I’m just eating the porridge oats in cold milk. I find that to be a nice evening snack.
I tend to prefer the chocolate flavour, but it comes in a wide range, including vanilla and syrup.
The Protein Works Diet Protein Truffles
Each tasty 30 gram truffle gives you 10.4 grams of protein, but only 2.6 grams of fat and 3 grams of sugar.
With flavours like mint chocolate, Jaffa Cake, and Caramel macchiato, you know you’re having a treat, whilst still getting that all important muscle building protein.
